Entropia Universe belongs to the rare genre of "sandboxes" and was developed quite a long time ago. A game of this genre enjoys well-deserved interest, since there is no particular competition in this area - except for Minecraft, hardly anyone can name particularly bright projects. Until recently, the Entropia Universe was known by another name - Project Entropia.

The development of this game began a very, very long time ago - back in the mid-1990s. But it wasn't until a few years later, in 2003, that a fully formed game universe emerged, based on the Real Cash Economy model created by MindArk.
The essence of this model is simple. Inside the game, there is its own currency called PED. Currency is bought for real money - there is nothing revolutionary in this. The trick is different - the in-game currency could be converted in reverse order, i.e.E. exchange back for real money. This has never happened in any game before.
As for the gameplay itself, you find yourself on the recently colonized planet Calypso, which has not yet known all the delights of human organization. So you, in order to equip your home, will have to make purchases, as well as relax watching movies, listening to music, and so on. It is for these needs that the game currency is spent. But as mentioned above, Entropia Universe offered unprofitable prospects for enterprising players, as it was quite possible to develop your character, and then sell unique services to other players, get PED for them, which then translate into real and evergreen US dollars. But they, in turn, could already be spent on "pumping" yourself in real life.
As for the features in Entropia Universe, there are more than enough. This sandbox perfectly reflects real life - here you can open your own business, for example, a restaurant or a snack bar, build various buildings and structures, transport goods, design interiors or furniture, rent out real estate, play in casinos and even commit crimes. The possibilities are so wide that Entropia Universe even opens representative offices of real banks and virtual offices of large companies.
All events in the game first took place on the planet Calypso. It consists of two giant continents: Edoria and Amerpha. In addition, there is a huge space station called Crystal Palace, which "travels" in orbit accompanied by two moons. But now there are five planets in this world, and Calypso itself was sold by the developer to SEE Virtual Worlds for $6 million.
To understand the amount of investment in this project, which regularly gets into the Guinness Book of Records, it is enough to cite a few facts. For example, one of the players purchased a part of the virtual territory for $2.5 million, and an artifact called the Queen's Egg was bought for $70 thousand. As for making money, the record holder is a certain John Jacobs, who officially earned more than $330 thousand in Entropia Universe. Not so long ago, the development company announced civil rights in the game - now for $100 each player can get the right to vote and their own land plot.
As it was recently revealed, MindArk plans to launch two more new planets in the world of Entropia Universe. One of them is Universal Monsters, inhabited by all the characters of the Universal studio without exception. The second planet is being developed in conjunction with the Michael Jackson Foundation and will be called Planet Michael. Changes have also affected old planets - for example, Calypso has recently been completely transferred to the Cry Engine 2, which made it possible to significantly improve the graphics, as well as update the list of unique artifacts and items.
Although huge sums are invested in Entropia Universe, this MMO project is actually completely free. Although if you do not make real investments, and quite significant ones, you are unlikely to be able to make money here, but you can just have fun without problems.
