Description
Set in the Edo period in Japan, you take on the mantle of a samurai. You are wandering through the forest when the character is attacked by zombies. Unsurprisingly, this is over for him, and you find yourself trapped in a rogue purgatory that sets the game loop. The story here is quite minimalistic, and the cutscenes are told on static screens using game resources. In the main village where you've set up camp, there are various NPCs roaming around that you can interact with.
As with any roguelike, the world is randomly generated, and dying causes the mission to restart. Each task is designated by conquering a certain number of "floors". In each level, you will have to find and possibly unlock Torri's gate in order to move on to the next one. Gateways are color-coded depending on what potential bonuses they offer. For example, yellow ones will offer food to increase endurance or "Zen". Zombies are scattered throughout the location, and you will use the typical hack and kill approach to defeat them. Special moves called "Secret Arts" can be purchased. The hero can equip a total of four arts per mission.
